The founder story — Manolo Sanchez

I'm Manolo Sanchez. I started working as a jeweler in 1988 — 38 years ago at the time of writing. I founded Sparklean on January 10, 2003 because every jewelry cleaner I sold to customers at my retail counter either damaged something it wasn't supposed to (rhodium plating on white gold rings, anti-reflective coatings on eyeglasses, the nacre layer on pearls) or worked so poorly that customers came back to complain.

So I formulated my own. Plant-based. pH-neutral. Ammonia-free. Alcohol-free. The chemistry was right for the modern jewelry mix — pieces with plated metals, treated stones, AR-coated eyewear, electronic screens — all the surfaces a generic ammonia-based cleaner damaged.

23 years later, every batch of Sparklean is still tested personally by me before it ships. We've grown from a single retail spot to three Barcelona kiosks plus an international online operation — but the formula, the philosophy, and the quality control are unchanged.

What "jeweler since 1988" means in practice

Before Sparklean existed, I spent 15 years repairing, resetting, restoring, and cleaning every kind of fine jewelry — diamond engagement rings, antique gold heirlooms, sterling silver from grandmothers' estates, Rolex bracelets that had been worn for decades. That experience is what tells me which cleaner chemistry works on which piece.
